Stephen Carroll is an award-winning filmmaker based in Melbourne.

A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, Stephen’s short films have screened at film festivals all over the globe. Most notably, his short ‘Kin’ was selected in competition at the prestigious Locarno International Film Festival.

Stepping into the world of commercials and music videos, Stephen quickly garnered a reputation for strong, performance-driven storytelling.

In his first year, he was honoured with the SHOTS New Director Award for Asia/ Pacific. His winning piece, ‘Always Coming Down’ for the band Cordrazine, has gone on to earn multiple awards and was selected for the Young Director showcase at Cannes.

Since then, Stephen has gone from strength to strength, shooting all over the world and crafting television campaigns for Schweppes, AFL, Devondale and Honda, to name a few. Along the way, these campaigns have picked up awards at MADC, Spikes Asia, London International Advertising Awards, the Clios and Adfest.

Stephen’s solid body of work now straddles film genres, moving deftly through highly stylised visual storytelling concepts that capture beautiful and authentic performances to sophisticated experiential pieces working with hidden cameras and elaborate set-ups. He’s always looking for challenging projects that provide opportunities to take campaigns to the next level.
