Establishing his commercials career in New Zealand, David Rittey recently returned to Australia to join Exit Films. Having studied under the renowned L.A. based director’s coach, Judith Weston, David brings with him an ability to create natural and engaging performances from both actors and untrained talent.

With an early grounding in Fine Arts, David went on to study narrative film at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2000. This culminated in his graduation film being selected for the Academy Awards as well as numerous other festivals worldwide.

David received international acclaim when his short film ‘Closer’ was nominated for the prestigious Palm d’Or at the 57th Cannes Film Festival where it was selected to screen ‘In Competition’. Closer then went on to win Best Film and Best Performance at the New Zealand Film Awards and picked up Jury Prizes at St Tropes and Vancouver Film Festivals.

In his most recent short film, ‘We The Living’, David worked alongside the acting talents of Emily Barclay (In My Fathers Den, Suburban Mayhem) and Tom Budge (The Proposition, Candy). It premiered at the Melbourne Film Festival.Combining his background in fine arts with his dramatic work, David’s commercials blend cinematic imagery with performances that have a strong sense of authenticity and human connection.
