Amy Gebhardt / Cinema








After graduating from a Bachelor of Laws and Arts, Amy Gebhardt has written and directed many short films, winning multiple awards including Best Direction at the Flickerfest International Short Film Festival for LOOK SHARP.

Amy has directed several documentaries for ABC and SBS, including HEART as part of the Matchbox Films’ Anatomy Series which won Best Short Documentary at MIFF.

Her film, WE WERE HERE, was a unique project partnering with Screen Australia and Youtube using 100% user-generated content depicting a journey into the Australian psyche. WE WERE HERE was nominated for the IF Award for Best Short Documentary. Through this project she was awarded a mentorship with director, Dr George Miller.

In acknowledgment of her multi-dimensional screen work, Amy was awarded Kodak Australia’s New Director of 2008 and nominated for the Rising Talent Award at the IF Awards after graduating from her Masters in Directing at AFTRS. In 2008, she also won the Australian Film Commission award for Excellence in Directing in recognition of her work at AFTRS.

In 2014 she directed Second Unit on Justin Kurzel’s upcoming feature MACBETH filmed in the UK starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.

Amy is a 2014 recipient of the Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship, given to select artists who demonstrate outstanding talent and exceptional courage in their practice.
